Why We Do This

We've Been Where You Are

Most of our team didn't just study remedial massage, they found it because they needed it first. Years at a desk, a sporting injury, one too many niggles that wouldn't go away, that's what led each of them here. So when you're on our table, you're not just another appointment. We know what it's like to be in pain and want your body back, and that's exactly why we do this.

Not Just Remedial Massage

If your pain needs more than hands-on soft tissue work, say a joint that needs adjusting, a whole-body assessment, or a more clinical assessment-led approach, our chiropractors, osteopaths, and myotherapist are right here under the same roof.

Chiropractic Brunswick

Our chiropractors treat back pain, neck pain, headaches, and sciatica using manual spinal adjustment, soft tissue therapy, and mobilisation. Ideal for joint and nervous system-related pain.

Osteopathy Brunswick

Our osteopaths take a whole-body approach to musculoskeletal health — treating joint pain, back and neck injuries, posture issues, and chronic conditions. Initial consults are 60 minutes for a thorough assessment.

Myotherapy Brunswick

Our myotherapist takes a clinical, assessment-led approach to muscle and joint pain, using dry needling, soft tissue work, and exercise rehab to get to the root cause.

FAQs

Common Questions About Remedial Massage

Everything you need to know before your first visit.

Yes! Brunswick Chiropractic is at 178–180 Sydney Road, Brunswick VIC 3056 — on the corner of Edward Street. We've been serving the local community since 1987. Our patients regularly travel from Brunswick East, Brunswick West, Coburg, Carlton, Parkville, Northcote, and Thornbury, most are just 5–10 minutes away by tram or car, with Tram 19 running directly from the CBD and stopping right out front.
It's easy to get the two confused, as both treat similar structures and aim to relieve musculoskeletal pain. Myotherapy is built on the foundation of remedial massage, but a myotherapist completes an advanced diploma that adds dry needling, more in-depth assessment, and exercise rehabilitation to their toolkit. Every one of our remedial massage therapists has continued their training well beyond that initial diploma too, so if you're not sure who's the best fit for you, give us a call and we'll point you in the right direction.
Treatment may include a tailored combination of deep tissue massage, soft tissue manipulation, trigger point therapy, myofascial release and cupping, joint mobilisation, muscle energy technique, and stretching and exercise advice. Some of our therapists also offer dry needling or Be Activated techniques. Just let your therapist know your preferences and any areas to avoid before you start.
No, you can book directly with us without a referral. One thing worth knowing: remedial massage and myotherapy aren't AHPRA-registered professions, so unlike our chiropractors and osteopaths, they don't qualify for Medicare rebates under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan. They are, however, claimable on private health insurance Extras cover.
Yes — remedial massage is claimable on most private health funds' Extras cover, and we claim it on the spot via HICAPS, so you only pay the gap. Our therapists are registered providers with all major health funds. Your exact rebate depends on your level of cover, so it's worth checking with your fund beforehand if you're unsure.
Our remedial massage fees are $90 for a short session (up to 30 minutes), $105 for a standard session (up to 45 minutes), and $120 for a long session (up to 60 minutes). All health fund Extras cover is claimed on-the-spot via HICAPS, you only pay the gap.
Deep tissue work can feel intense, especially over tight or tender areas, but it shouldn't be unbearable. We work within your pain tolerance and check in throughout the session, so please speak up if the pressure needs adjusting. It's common to feel some soreness for a day or two afterwards, similar to how you might feel after exercise.
Only to your comfort level. You'll usually be asked to undress to your underwear for the area being treated, and you'll be covered with a towel or sheet throughout, with only the area currently being worked on uncovered. If you'd prefer to stay clothed, just let your therapist know and they'll adapt the session to suit.
A relaxation or day spa massage is generally lighter and aimed at general wellbeing rather than a specific issue, and therapists typically complete a shorter course focused on relaxation techniques. Remedial massage therapists complete a nationally recognised Diploma of Remedial Massage, with in-depth study of anatomy, physiology, and pathology, and maintain membership with a professional massage association through ongoing training. That deeper clinical knowledge means they can properly assess what's actually causing your pain or restriction, then use more targeted, and sometimes firmer, techniques to treat that specific problem, rather than just working over sore muscles. Both have their place, it really comes down to whether you're after general relaxation or treatment for a particular issue.
Arrive 10 minutes early to complete a short intake form. Bring your private health insurance card if you'd like to claim on the spot via HICAPS. Wear comfortable clothing, and let your therapist know upfront if there are any areas you'd prefer not to have treated.
Yes! We're open Monday–Thursday until 7:00 pm, Friday until 6:00 pm, and Saturday mornings until 12:30 pm. Evening and weekend appointments are popular, so we recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time.
Yes — our remedial massage team includes both male and female therapists. You can select your preferred practitioner when booking online, or call reception if you'd like a recommendation based on your condition or preferences.
