Chiropractic is a drug and surgery free mode of treatment concerned with the diagnosis, management and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, with a particular focus on the spine and pelvis.
The brain controls everything in the body, via the spinal cord and nerves exiting the vertebral column, so any change to the normal structure and function of the spine may potentially affect the nervous system and therefore general health.
Holistic Health
We treat holistically, seeing the body as a connected unit rather than just a collection of individual parts. We like to think that because the body is so intimately connected, that we may be able to help more than just your physical aches and pains as well.
What does Chiropractic mean?
The name chiropractic comes from Greek and means “done by hand”, so treatment is primarily hands-on.
Our experienced chiropractors use a variety of techniques including:
- Manual adjustments or manipulations (where you may often hear a popping sound, known as a cavitation),
- Soft tissue therapy,
- Mobilisations
- And stretching.
We can also employ gentle mechanically assisted techniques which may involve:
- The use of a drop piece section of the treatment table,
- Blocks
- Or wedges placed underneath the pelvis,
- And the Activator instrument (often called the “clicker” or a “gun”).
What can Chiropractors treat?
Whilst the spine is an important focus of Chiropractic, our chiropractors treat the whole body.
- Extremity adjustments (arms, legs, hands, feet, etc.),
- Cranial and TMJ techniques,
- Advice on nutrition,
- Posture,
- Ergonomics and exercise,
- And experience with paediatric conditions.
All help to complete our holistic approach to your health and well-being.
Tailored Treatment
Our chiropractors tailor all our treatments to each individual patient's needs. If you have a preference for (or an aversion to) a particular style or technique, let us know and we'll take your request on board. After all, it's your body, your health, so you're in charge!
Unfortunately, and often incorrectly, chiropractic has long been the target of negative press. Please follow this link to read how safe and effective chiropractic has been shown to be.
