Why We Do This

We've Experienced What Chiropractic Can Do

Most of us didn't stumble into this career, we chose it because we experienced chiropractic care ourselves first, and it changed how we understood our own bodies. That personal experience is what led each of us to study it. At its core, chiropractic is built on the idea that your nervous system controls everything, how you move, heal, and feel, and it works best when your spine and surrounding joints are moving properly. So when you're on our table, we're not just working from a textbook, we're working from our own experience of what it feels like when your body starts working the way it's meant to.

Your First Visit

What to Expect at Brunswick Chiropractic

No surprises. Here's exactly what happens from the moment you walk in, so you can arrive feeling confident and prepared.

History & Paperwork

Arrive 10 minutes early to fill in a short intake form. Your chiropractor will take a thorough case history — including any previous injuries, relevant medical background, and your goals. Bring any scans (X-ray, MRI, CT, ultrasound) you may have.

Physical Examination

A thorough assessment using orthopaedic, neurological, and chiropractic tests. This identifies the root cause of your pain — not just the symptom. Your chiropractor will explain what they find before any treatment begins.

Treatment & Plan

In most cases, you'll receive treatment on your first visit (approximately 45 minutes total). Your chiropractor will walk you through a recommended care plan — no pressure, just clear guidance so you can make informed decisions about your health.

💡 Tip: Wear comfortable, loose clothing. You may be asked to expose the area being treated, so layers help. Gowns are available if needed.

Cooper, the therapy dog at Brunswick Chiropractic

FAQs

Common Questions About Our Brunswick Chiropractors

Everything you need to know before your first visit.

Yes! Brunswick Chiropractic is at 178–180 Sydney Road, Brunswick VIC 3056 — on the corner of Edward Street. We've been the go-to chiro near me for Brunswick locals since 1987. Our patients regularly travel from Brunswick East, Brunswick West, Coburg, Carlton, Parkville, Northcote, and Thornbury, most are just 5–10 minutes away by tram or car, with Tram 19 running directly from the CBD and stopping right out front.
Both professions study for 5 years and treat musculoskeletal conditions using a similar toolkit of manual therapy techniques. Chiropractors focus on the spine, pelvis, and nervous system, using precise, targeted adjustments to restore movement, reduce pain, and support the way your whole body functions. Osteopaths also factor in circulatory and lymphatic function as part of their approach. In practice, there's significant overlap between the two, and the right fit usually comes down to your specific condition and personal preference. Our reception team can help you choose — just give us a call.
We stick to well-established, evidence-based techniques: manual spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, joint mobilisation, and stretching, plus gentler mechanically assisted options like the drop-piece table or Activator instrument for anyone who prefers a lower-force approach. If you have a preference for (or an aversion to) a particular style, just let your chiropractor know and they'll tailor your treatment accordingly.
The popping or cracking sound (called cavitation) is caused by gas releasing from the fluid within your joints, similar to what happens when you crack your knuckles. It's a normal physiological response to joint movement, not a sign that something has been "put back into place." As with any manual therapy, there's potential for mild, temporary side effects such as soreness or stiffness afterwards, not anything snapping or breaking. Your chiropractor will discuss what to expect and any risks relevant to your individual situation as part of your consultation.
No, that decision is always yours. There are no lock-in contracts at Brunswick Chiropractic, and no set number of visits. Some patients see us for a single flare-up and stop once they feel better, others choose ongoing care because they find it helps them stay active and pain-free. Either way, your treatment plan is based on what will give you the best possible outcome for your specific condition, and it's reviewed and adjusted as you go.
No, chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners, so you can book directly with us without a referral. The only exception is if you want to claim a Medicare rebate under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan, in which case your GP will need to provide that referral first. You'll still pay the full consultation fee upfront on the day, and the Medicare rebate is paid back into your account within a couple of days.
Chiropractic care for musculoskeletal conditions like low back pain and neck pain is well-supported by research and features in mainstream clinical guidelines. Government-commissioned reviews in New Zealand and Canada, along with US clinical practice guidelines, have found spinal manipulation to be an effective, low-risk option for these conditions, with mild and temporary side effects such as soreness being the most commonly reported. As with any healthcare profession, results vary between individuals, and we focus on techniques backed by solid evidence rather than anything unproven.
Our chiropractic fees are $140 for an initial consultation (40-60 minutes) and $78 for return visits (approximately 15 minutes). We offer some of the most competitive chiropractic prices in Melbourne's inner north. All health fund Extras cover is claimed on-the-spot via HICAPS — you only pay the gap. We're also a Bupa and Medibank Members Choice provider.
Yes — for chiropractic and osteopathy, you may qualify for up to 5 Medicare-rebated sessions per calendar year if your GP writes you a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP) referral. You pay the full amount upfront, and Medicare rebates directly to your savings account within 2 days. If you have a referral, please notify us before your appointment so we can prepare the correct paperwork.
Arrive 10 minutes early to complete a short intake form. Bring any relevant scans (X-ray, MRI, CT scan, ultrasound), your private health insurance card (for HICAPS claiming), and your Medicare card if you have a GP referral. Wear comfortable, loose clothing. You can also download and pre-fill our new patient form before you arrive to save time.
Yes! We're open Monday–Thursday until 7:00 pm, Friday until 6:00 pm, and Saturday mornings until 12:30 pm. Evening and weekend appointments are popular, so we recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time.
Yes — we have both male and female practitioners across all three disciplines (chiropractic, osteopathy, and myotherapy / remedial massage). You can select your preferred practitioner when booking online, or call reception if you'd like a recommendation based on your condition or preferences.
