Massage is the application of soft tissue manipulation techniques to the body with the hands. Remedial massage is a form of massage that is carried out by a qualified practitioner using soft tissue manipulation techniques to target specific areas of soft tissue in the body that are causing pain or discomfort.
Myotherapy is built on the foundation of Remedial Massage Therapy and focuses on the soft tissue (muscles, fascia, connective tissue) of the body and how it affects the other structures and systems of the body. Simply put, myotherapists help people who are in pain get out of pain. We do this through a combination of soft tissue techniques, stretching and strength training.
What is the difference between Myotherapy and remedial massage?
It's easy to get remedial massage therapy and myotherapy confused because they both treat similar structures of the body and aim to relieve musculoskeletal pain and injury. The main difference is that myotherapists complete an advanced diploma of remedial massage, which includes dry needling, advanced assessment and exercise rehabilitation.
What do our Myotherapists and remedial massage therapists treat?
Our qualified therapists may be able to provide relief from pain, improve range of motion, and help the body to heal using these techniques. It can be used to treat a variety of conditions, such as:
- muscle tension
- headaches and migraines
- back pain
- neck pain
- shoulder pain
- sports injuries
- chronic pain
- muscular dysfunction
- many more other conditions
How can we help you?
Our aim is to help relieve pain, but most importantly to work out why you are in pain - find the root cause. We can then create a treatment plan to potentially help stop your pain from returning and allow you to move with strength and confidence again. Whilst our main focus is on pain and dysfunction of the muscular system, should we think your condition requires another therapy we are able to refer you to another modality within this remedial massage and myotherapy clinic.
What techniques do we use?
Treatment with your myotherapist and remedial massage therapist may include deep tissue massage along with a specifically tailored combination of modalities including:
- Soft tissue manipulation
- Trigger point therapy
- Myofascial release
- Myofascial cupping
- Joint mobilisation
- Muscle energy technique
- Stretching
- Exercise prescription
- Dry needling
