Drop Piece table

There are sections of some chiropractic tables that can be raised and then rapidly lowered (or “dropped”) with a gentle push. This gentle push allows force to be transmitted through the body part that sits upon the table, which can be used to improve the movement, flexibility, and / or position of that specific joint.

Drop Piece Table

The idea behind the drop piece is that our chiropractors are aiming to improve movement in restricted joints, whether they be in the spine, pelvis or extremities. As the technique is performed, the table will be raised about an inch, then it drops down that far again as the force or push is delivered, and you will hear a noise (often described as a thud) as the table drops back down to its original position. It doesn’t give way, or hyper-extend, or go past the horizontal – we’re just trying to impart a bit more movement into some “stuck” joints.

The drop piece is often used instead of manual adjustments (the ones where the joint is “cracked” or “popped”), or in conjunction with them and other mechanically assisted techniques such as biomechanical blocks (or wedges) and/or the Activator. Rest assured, your chiropractor will be using the most effective methods for you, after having done extensive training in the technique and after having assessed and evaluated your specific condition. We want the best outcomes for you and will use whatever techniques we can to achieve these, in tune with your health goals and treatment preferences.
